Kick-off for ’Bryggen’ in Vejle, DK – Nov 20th, 2006
’Bryggen’ (the Wharf) is the name of Vejle’s new shopping center. The center is designed in a unique cooperation between the two internatinally renowned architects; schmidt hammer lassen and 3XN, who also designed the succesful Bruun’s Gallery in Århus (2004).
20 November the foundation stone of Bryggen; next generations city center; was laid in Vejle. Spring 2008 the doors will let in the first costumers to the 80 shops, cafes, restaurants and a large department store.
‘Bryggen’ will - like Bruun’s Gallery in Århus - emphasize Vejle’s position as leading retail city of its region and become an architectural landmark in Vejle. The center is a dynamic and sculptural object with irregular, facetted sides. It offers Vejle a new city quarter buzzing with activity, and will vitalize the promenade along Vejle River. The center will have 23,000 m2 shop area and 700 parking lots on the roof.
Behind the project are Steen & Strøm A/S and NCC Property; Scandinavia’s largest operator in development and management within shopping centers and Denmark’s largest contractor. Niras and Cowi are engineers.
