Composite bridges

Composite bridges

The philosophy of 3XN that the design should always be developed in correlation with the production and the materials used, shows in the design of two proposals for pedestrian bridges for Copenhagen harbor and Mandal in Norway

It is proposed that the two bridges be constructed from fibre-reinforced polymer composites. They are designed to make use of the plasticity of the material and its constructive properties. The compound nature of composites allows the design to distribute specific strengths on specific stressed areas by combining glass, Kevlar and carbon fibres with epoxy and polyester.
