Vision

3XN’s Department of Research & Development (R&D) is established in order to exploit the possibilities that arise when you apply the latest knowledge and technology.

The idea is that the expertise and know-how from the department should be implemented in the work of the office.

By using new materials and technologies, 3XN will develop a building culture that positively affects the world in which we live – architecturally and environmentally.

Digitalisation has given designers, engineers and architects new tools to work with. This has led to new design and production methods that can generate a new type of architecture. The natural sciences are also moving fast. Within the fields of biology, chemistry and physics it is today possible to design materials that meet specific needs.

Know-how

The R&D department will operate on the cutting edge between basic science and traditional solutions. Thus, the department will build up know-how in the architectural office.

Know: To find operational and relevant examples of digital development, knowledge must be collected from other digital design practices, innovative industries, material scientists, engineers, computer scientists etc.

How: Collected knowledge will be incorporated into, and experimented and played with to generate new solutions. As is well known, innovation often springs from the combination of knowledge from different fields and its application in new contexts.

Who we are

Since the establishment of R&D the following people have contributed to our work, either permanent staff or as interns: Kasper Guldager Jørgensen, Rasmus Møller, David Wolthers, Nanna Flintholm, Michael Soja Høxbroe, Jonas Riis Jensen, Mads Hougaard, Nis Timmer, Lars Lundbye, Johan Straarup, Jesper Thøger Christensen, Lasse Lind, Torben Lauritzen, Berglind Halla Elfudottir, Mikkel Schiller and Stian Lenes.
